Signs people notice
Most people find out because something small looks wrong. Here are the signs we hear about most often:
- Friends or customers receive odd emails or messages from you that you did not send.
- Password reset messages arrive for accounts you did not try to reset.
- Money, orders or card payments appear that you do not recognise.
- An account shows a new forwarding rule, or the mobile number or recovery email has changed.
- Someone was given remote access to your computer after a phone call or a pop-up.
- A supplier's bank details were said to have changed, and the request came by email.
Why speed matters, and why quick DIY fixes can make it worse
Attackers often leave a back door so they can return. If you change a password on a device that is already affected, the new password can be handed straight over as well. Wiping a computer in a panic can destroy the evidence your bank or insurer will want to see. And if a hidden forwarding rule is missed, the problem simply carries on.
None of this is cause for alarm. It is the reason we ask you to pause and call us first, so the steps happen in the right order.

What we do
We help you regain control of the accounts that matter and shut the doors that were opened. We check the devices involved, keep a clear record you can give to your bank, insurer or the police, and set things up so it is much harder for this to happen again.
We can help remotely or in person across the South Hams, whichever is quicker and safer for your situation.
If money is involved
Contact your bank straight away. Then report the fraud to Report Fraud (formerly Action Fraud) at reportfraud.police.uk or on 0300 123 2040.
