iPads live hard lives. They get dropped by children, propped up on café counters running the till, left in holiday lets as the guest guide, and taken onto boats in Salcombe harbour. We repair iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro models, and help with the setup and account problems that come with them.
How an iPad screen is built makes a big difference to the repair. On the standard iPad, the touch glass and the display underneath are separate parts. On iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro they are fused together, so damage to the glass usually means replacing the whole display. We check your model and explain what that means before we start.
Common iPad faults, by model
Standard iPad
Cracked glass is by far the most common job, often with the picture underneath still fine. Older Home button models have Lightning ports that wear out from years of daily charging; newer ones charge by USB-C and have Touch ID in the top button. Older batteries struggle to last a school day.
iPad Air and iPad mini
Laminated screens, USB-C charging on recent models and Touch ID in the top button. Screen damage usually means replacing the full display. We also see batteries that drain overnight and Apple Pencils that will not pair or charge.
iPad Pro
Thin and powerful, and easy to bend in a bag. Screens, charging and Face ID are the usual repairs, along with keyboard cases and accessories that stop connecting.

Screens and glass
Cracked glass, dead patches of touch, lines and flicker. iPad screens are glued in, so we work carefully to protect the display, the battery and the cables underneath.
Batteries and charging
Batteries that empty quickly or let the iPad switch off at 20%, and ports that only charge at an angle. We test your charger and cable first, because a tired cable is the cheapest fix of all.
'iPad Unavailable' and forgotten passcodes
If the passcode has been forgotten, the only way back in is to erase the iPad and restore it from a backup. We can do that with you and help you restore from iCloud if a backup exists. We will not bypass a passcode or Activation Lock on an iPad that is not yours.
iPads in shops, cafés and holiday lets
Till iPads that will not connect to the card reader or the WiFi, guest iPads that need locking down so visitors cannot change settings or sign in with their own accounts, and replacing a broken one quickly so trading carries on.

Your data and privacy
Check the iPad has backed up recently: Settings, your name, iCloud, iCloud Backup. We never ask for your Apple Account password, and if a test needs the iPad unlocked we do it with you or ask for a temporary passcode.

Drop the iPad at Springfield Farm Shop, East Charleton, by arrangement, or ask about collection around the South Hams. We check it with you, agree the price of the outcome, and tell you the expected time before starting. Screens for some models need ordering in; we tell you the likely wait up front.
If a repair is not worth it on an older iPad, we say so and help you move everything to a replacement.

iPad repair: your questions
Can you replace just the glass on my iPad?+
On the standard iPad the glass and the display are separate, so often yes. On iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro they are fused, so the whole display is replaced.
My iPad says 'iPad Unavailable'. Can you get my photos back?+
Only from a backup. A forgotten passcode means the iPad has to be erased. We can help you restore from iCloud if a backup exists.
My iPad only charges if I hold the cable at an angle.+
That is usually a dirty or worn port, or a worn cable. We clean and test both before suggesting any replacement.
Can you set up iPads for our holiday let or shop?+
Yes. We can set them up so guests or staff use them safely, connect them to your WiFi and till, and keep them updated.
My Apple Pencil will not pair. Can you help?+
Often, yes. Pairing problems are frequently about the Pencil model, charging or Bluetooth settings rather than a fault. Bring both in and we will check.
